Some workshops start with a plan. This one started with a conversation.
While staying at De Buurtcamping Leidschenveen, a wonderful community campsite in The Hague, I got talking with the site manager about what I do. She was excited right away — and within a few days, “Wood Carving Workshop” had a spot on the camp’s activity schedule.
On July 26th, five of us gathered around the workbench under the sun shade. Everyone started with a blank piece of wood and their own idea — a sun, a flame, a shape that meant something to them. We sketched, cut, sanded, and carved together, sharing tools, gloves, and a few cold drinks along the way.
At the end, each piece got a coat of varnish and went into a small frame — something to hang on the wall and keep, long after the campsite is packed up and everyone has gone home.
This is exactly what Craft Together is about: no winners, no pressure, just people making something real together, wherever we happen to be.
